NORWALK — The City of Norwalk will break ground on the Hermosillo Park Rehabilitation, Stormwater Capture and Infiltration Project on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Hermosillo Park, 11959 162nd Street, Norwalk, CA 90650.
Community members are invited to attend a brief program and ceremonial groundbreaking. Light refreshments will be provided.
Guided by extensive community feedback collected since 2019, this major investment upgrades one of Norwalk’s busiest neighborhood parks and introduces a modern stormwater capture and infiltration system designed to improve regional water quality, reduce runoff, and support long-term sustainability. The renovation reflects the priorities shared by residents during workshops, surveys, and outreach events over the past several years.
The $51.4 million project is fully funded through a combination of Measure W regional and municipal allocations, Proposition 68, Measure A, and dedicated park improvement funds. This multi-source funding approach allows Norwalk to deliver substantial park and water-infrastructure upgrades without impacting the City’s General Fund.
Construction will begin immediately following the groundbreaking and continue through winter 2027–28. Many programs that were once held at Hermosillo Park will be moved to nearby school sites, centers and areas, thus continuing Norwalk’s commitment to services during construction.
As work progresses, the City will share updates on park access, construction phases, and recreation programming at MyFuturePark.org to help residents plan around temporary impacts.
