Cerritos College to host free Commercial Music Showcase

NORWALK — The Cerritos College Music Department will present a free Commercial Music Showcase on Saturday, Feb. 7, offering the public a concert experience while giving students hands-on training in live entertainment production.

The event begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Cerritos College Performing Arts Center, Main Stage, 11110 Alondra Blvd.

Two student bands, The Psycho Kittens and Shade, will perform original sets during the concert. The program will also feature a multimedia presentation of Terra, a new album by Professor Dr. Andrew Maz.

The showcase is designed to function as a real-world training platform for students preparing for careers in the entertainment industry. Students and alumni are responsible for all aspects of production, including staging, lighting design, sound engineering and multi-camera filming.

In addition to music students, the event includes interdisciplinary collaboration with participants from the college’s dance, film and theatre departments, as well as alumni working alongside current students.

College officials said the hands-on approach allows students to apply their technical training in a live, high-pressure environment while building practical, career-ready experience.

Admission to the concert is free. Copies of Terra will be available for purchase at the venue, with all proceeds supporting the Cerritos College commercial music scholarship fund for students pursuing careers in the arts.
