Leno, whose “everyman” style has attracted millions of fans worldwide, hosted NBC’s “The Tonight Show” for more than two decades. During his tenure, the show earned an Emmy for outstanding comedy, variety or music series and Leno received a People’s Choice Award for favorite late night TV host. He also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and is a member of the Television Hall of Fame.
In 2014, Leno was honored with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, considered the nation’s top award for comedians who have made a significant impact on American culture.
Beyond late night, Leno built a following with his Emmy-winning series “Jay Leno’s Garage,” which showcases his well-known passion for automobiles.
He is also the author of several books, including the children’s titles “If Roast Beef Could Fly,” which made the New York Times bestseller list, and “How to Be the Funniest Kid in Your Class.”
His other works include his autobiography, “Leading With My Chin,” and “Headlines,” a compilation of humorous newspaper headlines.
Leno and his wife, Mavis, are longtime supporters of the Special Olympics. The couple was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for their work on the Gender Apartheid campaign, a joint effort with the Feminist Majority aimed at advocating for the rights of Afghan women under Taliban rule.
