Cerritos Library celebrates astronaut Sally Ride

CERRITOS – The Cerritos Library pays tribute to Sally Ride’s legacy as an astronaut, physicist, educator and advocate for young people in a free program for all ages on Thursday, June 15 at 6 p.m. in the Skyline Room.

The program honors women in STEM and marks the 40-year anniversary of Ride becoming the first American woman to travel to space.

“Sally’s Night” features a fascinating presentation by Julim Lee. An Interplanetary Navigation engineer with NASA Jet Propulsion Lab, Lee has contributed to the Odyssey Mars Orbiter, Kepler Space Telescope and exoplanet hunter ASTERIA CubeSat missions. Program participants will also enjoy STEM activities.

The program at Cerritos Library is part of a nationwide “Sally’s Night” celebration, led by the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. “Sally’s Night” received federal support from the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative Pool, administered by the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum. More than 20 organizations across the United States will hold events focusing on women and underrepresented genders in science, technology, engineering and math.
