Town hall meeting Thursday to discuss sheriff's department

SOUTH EL MONTE — Residents and community members are invited to a town hall meeting Thursday, Sept. 20, to discuss the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.


The forum is from 6-8 p.m. and will be held at the San Gabriel Valley Service Center, 1441 Santa Anita Ave., in South El Monte.


The sheriff’s department’s Civilian Oversight Commission is hosting the forum as part of its efforts to boost transparency and accountability.


The commission is actively reviewing several topics related to the sheriff’s department, including:

immigration policy
potential existence of secretive ‘cliques’
family assistance and communications
use of force
bail reform
conditions in county jails

The meeting is open to the public. Registration is not required.
