NORWALK -- A former Norwalk man pleaded guilty Tuesday to sexually assaulting a child over the span of seven years.
Timothy John Bennett, 45, pleaded guilty to a felony count of continuous sexual abuse. He was immediately sentenced to 12 years in prison and ordered to register as a lifetime sex offender.
Prosecutors said Bennett molested an underage girl he had access to from 1999 to 2006, while he lived in Norwalk.
The abuse stopped in 2006 when Bennett moved to Utah.
As the victim grew older, she told a counselor about the abuse, who then notified police.
After an investigation, prosecutors filed a case for warrant on Sept. 21, 2017. Bennett was extradited to Los Angeles County the following month to face the charges.
